Amid escalating tensions between Israel and Palestine, top government sources told News18 that India is in “regular touch” with its counterparts in West Asia and Europe for world peace.

Sources further said the Indian government is in touch with Saudi Arabia and the NSA-level talks may happen in the desert country “soon”.

The issue of Gaza bombardment by Palestinian military group Hamas has riled up the Israeli government, which claims thousands of its people have been killed in the strike. Moreover, Muslim and Arab countries, including Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, who side the Palestinians, have condemned the Israelis after a huge blast at a hospital in Gaza on Tuesday. Israel, however, has denied being behind the bombing, and instead blamed Palestine for the horrid incident.

India, which has a considerable Muslim population, is also treading carefully amidst the ongoing war. The government, however, has maintained that it supports Israel and condemns the terror act by Hamas. “We are very clear about this massacre and it is clearly by terror group Hamas. Our support to Israel will remain unconditional,” sources told News18.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is regularly updated by the “concerned authorities” about the Israel-Hamas war, top sources stressed. His latest statement condemning the hospital attack in Gaza points to New Delhi’s policy of strengthening India’s ties with Israel. “Deeply shocked at the tragic loss of lives at the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, and prayers for speedy recovery of those injured. Civilian casualties in the ongoing conflict are a matter of serious and continuing concern. Those involved should be held responsible,” PM Modi had said.

Meanwhile, world leaders, including US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak are in Israel to demonstrate solidarity with the country reeling under the war. Biden, who is in Tel Aviv, made a speech on Wednesday, warning Israel not to make the “same mistakes” as the US did during the 9/11 attack. “While we sought justice and got justice but we also made mistakes,” Biden had said.

So far, 3,500 Palestinians have been killed and more than 11,000 injured, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. While 1,400 Israeli are dead and nearly 200, including children, have been captured by Hamas and taken to Gaza, according to Israeli authorities.
