'Keep a Close Watch on his Knees': Aakash Chopra Shares Injury Concerns as CSK Retains MS Dhoni Ahead of IPL 2024
Former cricketer and pundit, Aakash Chopra shared his concerns with regards to MS Dhoni's knee injury after CSK announced that the legend is retained by the CSK side ahead of IPL 2024.

The deadline for the franchises to announce the list of players they have released has passed. One constant that continues to remain is the presence of MS Dhoni who will continue to lead the Chennai Super Kings. The five-time IPL and two-time CLT20 winning captain will continue with the franchise he has been with since the start of the IPL.

In a show called, ‘IPL Retention Special’ on JioCinema,  experts Anil Kumble, Mike Hesson and Aakash Chopra spoke about the various sides and their choices of players who were retained and released after the deadline for the respective franchises had passed ahead of the 2024 IPL mini-auctions.

Former Indian cricketer and now pundit, Aakash Chopra shared, “Dhoni would definitely like to play the full season. He’s facing some issues with his knee. I saw some videos of his from Dehradun where he was climbing down the stairs but not looking too comfortable.”

MS Dhoni is reported to have undergone knee surgery after the end of the previous edition of the IPL. The legend apparently was playing through injury as well during the IPL season.

Despite that MS Dhoni managed to play a big role as the finisher for his side. He only scored 104 runs in the 2023 season but managed to do it with a strike-rate of 182 and managed to score three boundaries and six maximums as he looked to score the big runs in the death overs.

So hopefully he will keep a close watch on his knees. But one thing is certain, if he plays, he’ll play the full season. Last season, too, there were doubts, but he’s proved everyone wrong time and again. So, I’ll refrain from saying anything about Dhoni. He will decide when to leave.”

The legendary skipper is also known to have a brilliant mind as he uses his brain to excel in his captaincy which is evident as the skipper for the Indian side previously and now as the captain for the Chennai Super Kings.

Many have been speculating when MS Dhoni would call time on his cricketing career as the legend retired from international cricket in 2020.

MS Dhoni however continued to remain as the captain for the CSK side and had even handed down the role of captain to Ravindra Jadeja in the 2022 season. But after a series of defeats, Dhoni was assigned as the captain once again as he led through the rest of the season but the side did not finish in a spot for the play-offs.

It is yet to be seen as to how CSK would transition into the post-Dhoni era with the legend being a crucial element to all the success CSK has had in its history in the IPL.
