Letter Writing Renaissance And The Revival Of Communication In The Digital Age
Writing letters not only promotes mental wellness but the underlying values that come from it like empathy, gratitude, patience, and community-building.

In an era dominated by digital communication, the art of letter writing is experiencing a renaissance. The handwritten or thoughtfully crafted letter offers a unique and personal touch that electronic messages often lack. This revival underscores the enduring power of meaningful, tangible communication.

Every method of communication has its place. Posting letters may be a thing of the bygone era but they still hold relevance, especially when Artificial Intelligence is becoming a part and parcel of our lives. When we write a letter, we write it just for the audience of one person, that one person who holds a special place in our hearts. In contrast to social media, which has a wider reach and all that you do is open your phone and type; writing by hand, with your unique handwriting is a laborious task because you are not only slowing down but also thinking about what to say.

“Children should be able to experience what it feels like using a not-so-instant method of communication. The calmness when you put your heart and soul on a piece of paper, the patience of waiting for days to receive a reply, and the excitement, when you see a postman carrying and reading letters to you, is an invigorating one. All of this constitutes an authentic postal experience that parents must encourage their children to witness,” says Shivani Mehta, co-founder, Daakroom.

Writing letters not only promotes mental wellness but the underlying values that come from it like empathy, gratitude, patience, and community-building are much needed in a digital age.

“So, the next time you pick up your phone to send your loved ones a note, remember that typing may be quick & efficient but writing will be personal and impactful,” signs off Mehta.
