Indian captain Rohit Sharma said that the bowlers made his job easier as a captain after India’s dominating 7-wicket win over Pakistan in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
The Indian team dished out a clinical display against their arch-rivals at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday, October 14. Rohit won the toss and elected to bowl first after which his side restricted their opponents to a below-par total of 191 runs.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam scored a fifty while Mohammad Rizwan scored 49 runs but the rest of the batsmen failed to rise to the occasion. Five Indian bowlers picked up two wickets each to bundle out the Green Army.

In reply, Rohit and his fellow opener Shubman Gill came out all guns blazing. Gill scored 16 before getting dismissed while Virat Kohli also started well but could only add 16 runs further to the cause.
Rohit smashed a fifty, narrowly missing out on a well-deserved century as the Indian captain was dismissed for 86. Shreyas Iyer scored a fifty to get India over the line and the ‘Hitman’ was full of praise for his bowlers.
“The bowlers were the ones today as well who set the game up for us. I don’t think it was a 190 pitch. At one stage we were looking at 280. The way they showed grit says a lot. That is something we pride ourselves in,” said Rohit during the post-match presentation ceremony.
“Whoever gets the ball does the job. We’ve got 6 individuals who can do the job with the ball. My job as a captain is important there as well. It’s to read the conditions and figure out who’s the right guy to do the job,” he added.

Sanjay Manjrekar quizzed Rohit further that India have got incredible depth in all departments, to which the Indian captain said that he was happy that everyone has a defined role and they’re chipping with the performances.
“It’s only because the guys – before entering the WC – they got a lot of runs. We were very clear what we wanted to do. Didn’t want to be in two minds about who’s going to bat where. All in all, it’s looking good. Want to keep my fingers crossed. Don’t want to get too excited,” said the 36-year-old.
