Singapore’s Ambassador to India Simon Wong took to his official ‘X’ handle and shared a spelling mistake done by MCD Delhi in a signage. On a board in one of the Delhi roads, Singapore has been spelt as ‘Singapur’. The board is close to the embassy of Vietnam. While sharing the image on ‘X’, Simon wrote, “It is always good to spell check first.”

“This is nothing. Most of the Punjabi translations of signages in Delhi are outright wrong. Have complained multiple times, but nothing changes,” commented an ‘X’ user. Another person wrote,”It is what happens when people translate from Hindi words to English.. Common mistakes in all regional languages.”
Many people mentioned how most of the Indians pronounce it as ‘Singapur.’ “I would say, before highlighting it here, could have done it right by telling some subordinate,” commented another person. Many people were embarrassed as to how this reflects badly on the country.
Here are a few responses:
National Embarrassment!I know not the one who should talk about spelling mistake.… but mine are only on Twitter.
But my work is scrutinised by scientist B C D E F G H.. I would be out of a job if I draft regulations and policies with such silly mistakes. https://t.co/LyQEuVMg2h

NDMC has given the Singapore an India twist in the name – Singapur like Rampur. Hope they correct it soon to avoid any further embarrassment. https://t.co/zps8uBDAil— Agrim Tyagi (@wild_viper104) October 8, 2023
