The National Testing Agency (NTA) has addressed frequently asked questions regarding the NEET UG 2024 syllabus. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate is scheduled for May 5, 2024, as per the NTA Exam calendar. The NTA has confirmed that there are changes in the NEET UG syllabus for 2024, including additional topics beyond the NCERT books. Detailed information is accessible on their official website, nta.ac.in.
The NTA informed the NEET question paper in the coming year would be based on the most recent syllabus. With regards to the changes in the syllabus, the agency stated, “Those topics which are neither being taught anywhere in the school board nor available in the latest book of NCERT, have been deleted. The syllabus has been revised and reduced to focus on core concepts.”
The rationale behind changing the syllabus for NEET UG 2024, as explained by NTA, is rooted in the COVID-19 situation. Many school boards, in response to the pandemic, removed certain portions from each subject. The reinstatement of these deleted portions has not been uniform across all boards. Considering this, NTA received numerous requests for syllabus changes to ensure that students are not disadvantaged.
Additionally, NTA clarified that the new syllabus includes topics not covered in the NCERT textbooks. These additions were made because various school boards, including the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, the Bihar School Education Board (BSEB), the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), and others, teach these topics.
The updated syllabus was uploaded on the official website last month, and the exam will be held in May 2024 and conducted in 13 languages. Students can expect the results to be released by June 2024. The agency advised the candidates to go through the revised syllabus carefully to note all the changes. The dates for online registration for NEET UG 2024 are yet to be published.
Candidates must score at least 50 per cent in physics, chemistry, and biology on the qualifying exam. Furthermore, the minimal qualification for applicants from the SC, ST, and OBC-NCL categories is 40 per cent. Candidates who pass NEET UG are eligible for admission to undergraduate studies at medical schools in the country.
