'There Were Questions About Ravindra Jadeja's Batting...': Former Opener Praises India Allrounder After New Zealand Win
Batting for the first time in the ongoing World Cup, Ravindra Jadeja took over the finishing line against New Zealand.

Robin Uthappa has praised Ravindra Jadeja for his solid batting performance against New Zealand in an ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 contest on Sunday.

India took on New Zealand in Dharamshala and after an intense battle, the Rohit Sharma-led side ended their 20-year wait to record a win over them in an ICC event.

Virat Kohli and Jadeja stitched a 78-run partnership for the sixth wicket to guide India out of a tricky spot.

This was the first time Jadeja got to bat in this edition of the World Cup and Uthappa was impressed. “Jadeja…absorbed pressure as well. There were questions about Jadeja’s batting and will it come to the fore and it did come to the fore in this important game against New Zealand,” Uthappa told India Today.

India were tested in their fifth game and passed it with flying colours for their fifth win in a row.

New Zealand have been in terrific form.

They were one of the only two unbeaten teams at the tournament ahead of their clash with India. In the 2019 edition of the tournament, India were knocked out by the Kiwis in the semi-finals.

India opted to bowl first and got rid of New Zealand openers Devon Conway and Will Young early.

Daryl Mitchell rescued the innings for his side as he smashed 130 runs in 127 balls. Mohammed Shami made the most impact on India’s bowling front as he pulled off a fifer, curbing the Black Caps at 273 runs.

During India’s batting, Rohit Sharma played a fantastic knock of 46 runs as Shubman Gill added 26.

It was Virat Kohli who did most of the heavy lifting as he scored 95 runs in 104 balls to secure the win for India. He was dismissed in the 48th over leaving him five runs shy of a record-tying century.

India will next take on England in Lucknow on October 29.
