'Took Stock of India-Japan Ties': PM Modi After Talks with Fumio Kishida on Sidelines of G20

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida on Saturday on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. PM Modi and Kishida spoke on the ground covered during India’s Presidency of the Group of 20 and Japan’s Presidency of G7.

“Held productive talks with PM @kishida230. We took stock of India-Japan bilateral ties and the ground covered during India’s G20 Presidency and Japan’s G7 Presidency. We are eager to enhance cooperation in connectivity, commerce and other sectors,” PM Modi wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The two leaders met after the first session on ‘One Earth’ during the summit. The 18th G20 Summit is being held at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre in the national capital on Saturday and Sunday. A Leaders Declaration will be adopted at the conclusion of the New Delhi Summit.

Prime Minister Modi is holding over a dozen bilateral on the sidelines of the mega summit. Since Friday, PM Modi has held a one-to-one conversation with a number of global leaders including US President Joe Biden.

India’s G20 Presidency theme this year is ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – One Earth, One Family, One Future’. It is a global roadmap for sustainable, inclusive, and human-centric development.

During the G20 presidency, India has focused on various issues like inclusive growth, digital innovation, climate resilience, and equitable global health access. By leveraging its presidency, India is fostering collaborative solutions that benefit its own population and contribute to the broader global well-being.

The summit is being attended by over 30 heads of state and top officials from the European Union and invited guest countries and 14 heads of international organisations.
