2G scam: CBI grills Raja for second day
The former telecom minister reached CBI office accompanied by his doctor.

New Delhi: Former telecom minister A Raja was questioned for the second day on Saturday at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) headquarters in New Delhi in connection with the multi-crore 2G spectrum scam. Raja arrived at the CBI headquarters at 8:50 AM on Saturday and his questioned went on for almost seven hours.

Raja reached CBI office accompanied by his doctor. Initially the doctor was made to wait at the reception but later called in in the interrogation section by CBI officials.

He was also questioned for nealry eight hours on Friday at the CBI headquarters.

After the questioning, Raja said, "I have cooperated fully with CBI. Investigations are on and nothing else can be said at the moment."

The CBI is looking for the money trail of 2G funds and linking the evidence to companies owned by Raja and friends.

CBI suspects that money has been invested in coal mines in South Africa and Indonesia which are fronted by Raja's men.

The money has allegedly been invested in firms like Green House & Equus Estates, run by Raja's friends. A Kaliaperumal, Raja's brother, is a director in Equus Estates, as was Raja's wife till she resigned. Equus Estates reported a domestic turnover of Rs 755 crore in one year, up from Rs 1 lakh in 2004.

Money was allegedly stashed away in Welcome Communications, a Malaysia based firm. 85 per cent of equity in Welcome Communications is allegedly owned by Raja. Welcome Communications bid for BSNL's wi-max operations. Tender was scrapped after evidence emerged that Welcome Communications allegedly belonged to Raja.

The agency hopes that key Raja aides RK Chandolia, AK Srivastava as well as hawala dealer Daulat Jain will turn approvers.
