AAP government loses majority; Kejriwal defiant on Jan Lokpal, slams Delhi Police
The AAP government sparked off another controversy with Kejriwal threatening to resign if the Jan Lokpal Bill is no

New Delhi: In a major setback to the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi, lone Independent MLA Rambeer Shokeen withdrew his support on Monday reducing it to a minority. Shokeen had been threatening to withdraw his support if the Arvind Kejriwal government did not fulfil its promises.

Ever since the AAP government came to power with the outside support of the Congress, the Janata Dal United and the Independent MLA, it has been mired in controversies. The latest being the government losing majority and the Jan Lokpal Bill tangle.

The AAP made a spectacular debut in the recently concluded Assembly elections by winning 28 seats out of 70-member Assembly. The AAP crossed the half-way mark with the outside support and stood at 38. But with its MLA Vinod Kumar Binny being expelled from the party, Congress MLA Asif Mohammad Khan making it clear that he will vote against AAP and the Independent MLA withdrawing their support, the number now stands at 35.

The AAP government sparked off another controversy with Kejriwal threatening to resign if the Jan Lokpal Bill is not passed. Jan Lokpal Bill is one of the poll promises of the AAP government and it was also planning to convene a special session at Indira Gandhi stadium to pass the bill on February 16 and invited the public.

Earlier in the day, Kejriwal wrote a letter to Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung lashing out at the Delhi Police asking why it can't provide security for an open session, if it can do so for IPL matches.

He even questioned the Police Commissioner's moral right to stay in his position, if he can't provide security to an open session of the Delhi Assembly. The letter was a response to the Lieutenant Governor's letter to Kejriwal saying that it's difficult to give security to an open session.

There has been a war of words over the bill as the AAP government wanted to introduce it in the Assembly and the Home Ministry saying that the Centre's approval was necessary in the matter.
