Lucknow: Shivpal Yadav, the chief of Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) and the younger brother of Mulayam Singh Yadav, has hinted that he might get into an alliance with the Congress for 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
He, however, made it clear that any such tie-up would be conditional on getting “respectable” number of seats.
Speaking to media at his party office in Lucknow, Yadav said, “We want to form an alliance with all secular parties in the state as we want to defeat the BJP at any cost in the Lok Sabha elections. But we will only forge an alliance if we get respectable number of seats.”
Attempting to take credit for the 10% reservation to ‘economically weaker’ upper castes, Yadav said, “I would like to remind that recently at our first rally, we raised the demand for reservation for economically weaker upper caste people. We are happy that the demand has been met. However, there were many promises made by PM Modi and none of them were fulfilled.”
Shivpal Yadav had formed a separate political party after falling out with nephew and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
Many senior Samajwadi Party leaders, including former minister Shiv Kumar Baria, also joined the PSPL.
Shivpal Yadav, however, continues to serve as Samajwadi Party MLA from Jaswantnagar. He has not yet resigned from the SP.
