New Delhi: Human Resource Development Minister, Arjun Singh's distancing from 10 Janpath seems complete. His comments in his book on lack of democracy in decision making within the Congress seem to have drawn the wrath of some as was evident in the cold shoulder that he received from Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday.
Coming face-to-face for the first time following the HRD Minister's criticism of the way the Congress leadership evaluated loyalty in the party, Sonia Gandhi gave Arjun Singh the silent treatment.
They were both invited to the convocation ceremony of the Jamia Milia Islamia university and though both shared the dais, they did not even exchange greetings.
There was no no interaction between the two leaders throughout the two-hour-long ceremony, even as university Vice Chancellor, S Ahmad occupied the seat between the two.
This cold shoulder from Sonia Gandhi is being seen as a result of the release of Arjun Singh's book Mohin Kahan Vishram in which the politician from Madhya Pradesh had said that loyalty was being defined in limited terms.
In what could be another snub to the HRD Minister, Sonia Gandhi made a special mention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, saying he has put his personal imprint on the initiatives to expand the infrastructure for higher education.
However, the Prime Minister softened the blow a bit, saying Arjun Singh deserved the respect of a senior Congress leader.
