Kadapa: Amid reports of possible arrest of YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy in the disproportionate assets case against him, the Andhra Pradesh police are taking no chances on law and order front and have heightened security in the state.
"Police are prepared to face any eventuality in case the Kadapa MP, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, is arrested in the graft case," Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police V Dinesh Reddy told reporters in Kadapa against the backdrop of the grilling by CBI of Jagan in Hyderabad in connection with the disproportionate assets case.
The DGP was on the visit of the district which also happens to be the home constituency of Jaganmohan Reddy.
Anxiety in the state police establishment over Jagan's likely arrest is evident from the fact that the Hyderabad Police have clamped prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPc in the city where Jagan was quizzed by CBI.
On the June 12 bypolls to eighteen assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat, the top cop said, "We are putting in place a five-stage security system for ensuring smooth conduct of bypolls in free and fair manner".
The DGP said police have taken steps to curb distribution of liquor and money by political parties to lure voters and are keeping close watch on the developments in run-up to the byelections.
"Police have noticed that political parties provide shelter to musclemen and store money for distribution in rented houses. We are fully prepared to conduct raids on them," he added.
Reddy further said that police have so far seized the unaccounted for cash of Rs 8.15 crore and 18.55 kg gold in Anantapur, Kadapa and Kurnool districts, and as many as 13,947 bind-over cases have been filed.
He further said that the police have so far seized 5,225 liters of arrack and 2,500 bottles of liquor.
