Azharuddin likey to contest polls from Rajasthan
Azharuddin met Rajasthan Food and Civil Supplies Minister in Jaipur.

Jaipur: As the party is yet to decide on his candidature from Rajasthan or Uttar Pradesh, former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin has said he will contest from anywhere the party suggests.

"I have faith in Sonia Gandhi's leadership and will be willing to contest from whichever seat she suggests," he said in Jaipur on Friday.

Azharuddin met Food and Civil Supplies Minister and Tonk-Sawaimadhopur in-charge for Lok Sabha polls Babu Lal Nagar, Medical and Health Minister Amaduddin Ahmed Khan, former MLA Mahir Azad and Tonk Youth Congress President Saud Saidi.

Sources said that he might contest parliamentary polls from Tonk-Sawaimadhopur seat in Rajasthan on a Congress ticket.

On asked about the visit, Azharuddin said he has family terms with the ministers and it was a non-political meeting.

The Uttar Pradesh Congress had on Thursday said the former cricketer, who recently joined the party, might be fielded from Meerut or Moradabad seat in the coming general elections.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan President of Jamaat-E-Islami Hind Engineer Mohammad Salim on Friday expressed concern over the name of Azharuddin doing the rounds as a Congress candidate from Tonk-Sawaimadhopur seat.

"It is quite humiliating for Muslims residing in the state that the party (Congress) failed to find a suitable candidate from the community within the state," Salim said in a statement.

"If Congress wants him to contest the polls, why not from his home state Andhra Pradesh or home city Hyderabad?" he asked and said he would write a letter to AICC President Sonia Gandhi and PCC President CP Joshi expressing his concern.
