New Delhi: After the BJP, there are divisions in the Left over their election debacle.
The CPI National Secretary AB Bardhan on Sunday listed three reasons for the Left's unprecedented defeat in West Bengal.
Bardhan said the Left shouldn't have withdrawn support to the UPA Government on the Indo-US nuclear deal issue in a direct attack on CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat's policy.
“What was the point in withdrawing support when it was only a question of outside support? We should have continued with our campaign and as far elections go we always fight separately, so a separate struggle would have taken place and a separate electoral fight would have continued,” Bardhan said.
Claiming that the Left Front government in Bengal is run unilaterally by the CPM, Bardhan also said that the land acquisition in Nandigram and Singur were not dealt with properly by the state.
Bardhan’s comments on the Left’s performance on the General Elections comes on a day when former party member Somnath Chatterjee also said that the CPM has not been able to “save the party”.
In an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN, Chatterjee said, “They have let down their supporters, their comrades in a very bad shape.”
