"Bengal has always shown the way to India. In the coming days also, it will show the way to everyone," Banerjee said.

Kolkata: Having registered a landslide victory winning 34 out of 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said that the state would lead the country in the days to come.

"Bengal has always shown the way to India. In the coming days also, it will show the way to everyone," Banerjee, the West Bengal Chief Minister, said while conferring 'Bangabibhusan' and 'Bangabhusan' awards.

The state's highest civilian awards were given to 33 individuals for outstanding contribution in respective fields. The occasion also marked the completion of three years of Banerjee's chief ministership.

Former Indian soccer captain Bhaichung Bhutia was among those awarded 'Bangabhusan'. Others include singers Srikanta Acharya, Indranil Sen, Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta, Indrani Sen, Lopamudra Mitra, cricketers Laxmi Ratan Shukla and Manoj Tiwary, chess grandmaster Surya Sekhar Ganguly.

Veteran actress Madhabi Mukherjee, best known as Satyajit Ray's 'Charulata', Lepcha tribal leader Sonam Tshering Lepcha, vocalist Arun Bhaduri, physician Sukumar Mukherjee, film star Dipankar De, Justice Md Abdul Gani, writer Nrisingha Prasad Bhaduri, educationists Felix Raj, singers Haimanti Shukla and Mohan Singh, and dancer Alakananda Roy were felicitated with 'Bangabhusan'.
