New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday launched a scathing attack on Janata Dal United(JDU) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) alliance by calling it an "alliance of desperation".
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy said, "It's an alliance of desperation. Bihar is heading for a change and BJP is an option. Party will decide if we will project a CM candidate or not. We aren't governed by what Lalu and Nitish are doing."
Nitish Kumar has been named the Chief Ministerial candidate of Bihar by the Janta Parivar alliance for the upcoming Assembly polls.
The decision to project Nitish as the CM candidate was taken after the Bihar Chief Minister and Lalu met Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav at his residence in Delhi on Monday.
Lalu said the main aim of his party is to ensure consolidation of anti-Bharatiya Janata Party votes.
Even though there has been no announcement on the seat sharing, Nitish also confirmed that Congress, JDU and RJD will fight elections together.
Nitish's candidature has Congress's support as well. Sources said Rahul and a sizeable section of the state Congress leaders have preferred Nitish Kumar as the chief ministerial face of a secular alliance in state Assembly polls.
Under one of the seat-sharing formulae that is being discussed, both RJD and JDU could contest 100 seats each while 43 could be left for Congress, CPI-M, CPI and the NCP. Bihar Assembly has 243 seats.
