New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday complained to the Election Commission against Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan over a controversial remark he made regarding the Kargil war.
At a rally in Masuri in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, Khan said that it was the Muslim soldiers who won the war for India.
"It was not Hindu soldiers who conquered the peaks of Kargil mountains; It was our Muslim soldiers, who praising Allah conquered the mighty mountains," said the UP Minister.
The Congress has already complained to the EC against Khan.
"The Election Commission has assured us that they will look into the matter. This is an insult to the country," BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.
Khan, however, remains defiant. "What's the harm in saying that Muslims won a war for their country? It should not be misinterpreted," he said.
