New Delhi: The BJP has taken serious note of news reports that its young leader Varun Gandhi has turned down the offer to fight elections from the Mirzapur Lok Sabha constituency.
"There was a series of news reports in a section of the media about Gandhi being fielded from Vidisha while the party at that point of time had not begun any discussion on the matter. Then came Bhagalpur and now Mirzapur. There is a set pattern in such stories and the way they come out and we have taken a serious note of them," PTI quoted a senior party leader as saying.
Reports earlier said that Varun Gandhi has turned down the party's offer to fight the Mirzapur constituency because he is unhappy for not being allowed ticket for Vidisha.
"Such stories, which can be sourced to insiders, put the organisation in bad light. Tomorrow somebody can say he declined the offer because he knew Mirzapur is not as safe as Vidisha or Bhagalpur. There is no end to such stuff and it should be reined in," the party leader said.
Earlier, senior BJP leader L K Advani had remarked at a workers' meeting that the party should guard against leaking internal issues to the media.
In December 2006, BJP chief Rajnath Singh also cautioned party colleagues that they should exercise restraint in going public with such matters.
