New Delhi: Under mounting opposition onslaught over the performance of the Modi dispensation, BJP has initiated an exercise of regular interaction of its leaders with Union ministers so the "good work" done by the Centre is effectively communicated to the people.

Party leaders and spokespersons have already met Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu as part of the exercise during which presentations were made about the achievements of the two ministries and their focus areas.

Plans are afoot for similar meetings with other key ministers including Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Road Tranport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Power Minister Piyush Goyal.

"The purpose of the exercise is that a lot of good work is being done by the government and party spokespersons need to highlight the achievements of the Modi government," BJP national secretary Sidharth Nath Singh said.

BJP's Good Governance department headed by its vice president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe is helming the exercise. Singh is also a member of the department.

With the NDA government set to present its second full budget later this month, Congress has been aggressively attacking the Modi government over its performance. BJP leaders said there was a need to arm party leaders and spokespersons with correct information so they could effectively counter the opposition.

The measure is aimed at regular interactions of party leaders and spokespersons with ministers, especially those holding infrastructure portfolios whose works have a visible imprint on the ground.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address to the parliamentary party as well as Council of Ministers has often emphasised on the need for effectively disseminating information about his government's "pro-people" measures. NITI Aayog member Bibek Debroy has also given a presentation to the party leaders as part of the exercise.
