BJP like my old home: Allahabad candidate SC Gupta after re-induction
Shyama Charan Gupta left BJP in 1999 and contested against Murli Manohar Joshi on a Samajwadi Party ticket.

Allahabad: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Allahabad Shyama Charan Gupta, who has recently returned to the party, said the BJP is like his old home. Gupta said, "I returned to my old home as I got a place."

Gupta left BJP in 1999 and contested against Murli Manohar Joshi on a Samajwadi Party ticket. He, however, lost the polls. Out of four Lok Sabha elections he has contested so far, Gupta lost three of them.

While Gupta was keen on contesting elections from Banda seat as he won from there in 2004, but he was given Allahabad ticket. "I expressed my wish to contest from Banda but one has to contest polls from where he gets ticket," he said.

He also dismissed the rumour against him that he has bought the ticket. "There was no money involved in the Allahabad ticket." Even when Gupta was a new entrant in the party he got the ticket while Kesari Math Tripathi was denied one. Dissent also grew in the party because of the ticket distribution.

He now gave assurance that he won't leave the party. "I will not leave the party," said Gupta.

He also dismissed reports that he does not meet people and is seen only during elections. He said, "I meet people. If people invite me for a wedding, I attend it also."

Charting out his plan for the constituency, Gupta said that he will open new industries which will lead to employment. "We will open industries which will generate employment. We will also make Sangam a tourist place. We will develop road, rail and water connectivity," Gupta said.
