BJP to form government in Jharkhand, ends a credible second in J&K
In Jharkhand, the BJP-All Jharkhand Students Union Party-Lok Janshakti Party alliance is way ahead of its rivals.

New Delhi: Once again an election counting day has brought good news for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While BJP is all set to form the government in Jharkhand along with its allies, the party has also emerged as the second largest party in Jammu and Kashmir which is headed for a hung Assembly.

In Jharkhand, the BJP-All Jharkhand Students Union Party-Lok Janshakti Party alliance is way ahead of its rivals. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, though, has managed to come up with a credible performance. The Congress and its allies have been completely marginalised along with Babulal Marandi's Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) who have been banished to the opposition benches for the next five years.

While Jharkhand was always expected to lean heavily towards the BJP, the bigger surprise is in Jammu and Kashmir where the Peoples Democratic Party of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed decimated the National Conference in Kashmir Valley while the BJP swept Jammu.

With a badly fractured mandate in Jammu and Kashmir, it will be interesting to see who joins hands with whom to form the next government in the state. While the PDP, riding on its Kashmir performance, is the biggest party followed by the BJP, former allies Congress and National Conference have been pushed way behind in the power game.
