Raisen: Even before the first vote is cast, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj is expected to have a cakewalk from Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency as the nomination of her main opponent Rajkumar Patel of Congress was on Monday rejected during scrutiny.
With the District Returning Officer (DRO) Sandeep Yadav finding Patel's poll papers not in order, the Congress will not have any official candidate in Vidisha against the BJP's high-profile leader. Vidisha constituency was expected to witness a straight fight between Sushma and Rajkumar.
Patel's nomination was rejected on the ground he had not filed form A in original along with the nomination papers on April 4, the last day of filing nominations, official sources said.
In his 25-page verdict which was given in the presence of two observers from the Election Commission, Yadav ruled that as per the People's Representative Act nomination of Patel cannot be accepted as original copies of Form A were not filed with it which is mandatory, they said.
In an another blow to the Congress, the DRO also rejected the nomination of Patel's brother Devkumar Patel, who filed the papers as a dummy candidate, on the ground that it was incomplete.
