New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh, on Thursday met the party's Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani ‘to clarify’ on the issue of alleged distribution of cash by Singh in a Rajasthan Lok Sabha constituency, where his son is in fray, in violation of the model code of conduct.
“I have met him to clarify that it (distribution of money to the poor) is a part of our tradition,” Singh told the media after the meeting at Advani's residence.
The BJP had on Wednesday said it would wait for the notice of the Election Commission before taking a stand on the allegation.
Singh said in Jaisalmer on Thursday that helping the needy was his duty and his family has been helping the poor but claimed neither he nor any other BJP leader had violated the model code of conduct.
Meanwhile, EC will decide on Monday on the issue of alleged distribution of cash by Singh.
The Election Commission had on Wednesday said that it would watch the CD on alleged distribution of cash by Singh at Gagaria village in Rajasthan's Barmer district from where his son Manvendra Singh is contesting Lok Sabha polls before arriving at a decision.
