New Delhi: In a stern step, the Central government has sought a report from telecom companies by July 31 on call drops. Telecom operators have been asked to optimise networks and analyse reasons for call drops.
All telecom firms have been asked by the government to optimise radio frequency to address frequent call drops. The government had ordered a special audit of quality of service by the telecom firms.
CNN-IBN had run a sustained campaign against call drops. In a campaign called 'No Call Drops', where questions were raised over the inability to built more mobile phone towers to improve efficiency.
Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had asked the telecom operators to walk the extra mile to ensure that quality service is delivered to people and that consumers do not face issues like call drops.
The Department of Telecom (DoT) had written to sector regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to suggest a disincentive mechanism to tackle the issue of frequent call drops.
"We have asked TRAI to analyse the issue and suggest what kind of in-built disincentive mechanism could be used for call drops," Telecom Secretary Rakesh Garg had said.
