In an indication that he is cozying up to the BJP, Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu will be visiting Jaipur on Friday to attend the swearing-in of Vasundhara Raje as Chief Minister of Rajasthan.
The BJP extended an invitation to Chandrababu Naidu to attend the swearing-in ceremony, which will also be graced by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Ever since Narendra Modi was named the BJP's prime ministerial candidate and exhorted the TDP to join hands to oust the Congress, Chandrababu has been preparing ground to realign with his erstwhile ally.
Though initially the AP unit of BJP was averse to the alliance with TDP, it reconciled in recent days following the suggestion of the party's national leadership. State BJP president G Kishan Reddy indicated that they might go for a tie-up with the TDP in Seemaandhra, post the bifurcation of the state.
In this backdrop, Chandrababu has been invited for the swearing-in of not only Vasundhara Raje but also Shivraj Singh Chouhan (as Madhya Pradesh CM) and Raman Singh (as Chhattisgarh CM), TDP sources said. "He could not attend the swearing-in of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh Chief Ministers but will attend the Jaipur event tomorrow," the sources added.
At a meeting with his party MLAs on Thursday, Chandrababu said he would be unavailable for the state Assembly proceedings on Friday as he would be visiting Jaipur. He asked them to effectively manage the proceedings for a day in his absence.
The former Chief Minister is expected to have a one-on-one interaction with Narendra Modi during the Jaipur visit to firm up a possible TDP-BJP alliance, sources added.
