Chidambaram must resign, demands BJP
The CBI must probe Chidambaram's role in the 2G scam, says BJP.

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Murli Manohar Joshi on Thursday hit out at Union Home Minister P Chidambaram over controversy concerning a Finance Ministry note on the 2G spectrum allocation scam.

He said that the Home Minister must resign and that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) must probe his role in the scam.

The veteran BJP leader also questioned the CBI over not quizzing Chidambaram with regard to the case till now.

Referring to the losses incurred due to the scam, Joshi said that Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee must determine the loss, adding that the note revealed that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was kept in dark during the process.

Earlier on Thursday, BJP national spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy had held Chidambaram responsible for the scam, citing the Finance Ministry note.

"In that case, the 2G scam might not have taken place...This calls for CBI's intervention to investigate the issue," said Rudy.

Rudy asked how Chidambaram could side with Raja and allow him to "steal" Rs 1.76 lakh crore from the exchequer.

Another senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley asked why did Chidambaram changed his advice regarding the 2G pricing issue.

"What was finance ministry doing during 2G Spectrum. Finance Secretary had written letter to Telecom Secretary about the pricing issue. Those who were supposed to protect national exchequer, what they were doing, why did not they act during the 2G?" he said.

"The most experienced and wise man (Pranab Mukherjee) now saying same, what is the answer congress has now," he said.

The Finance Ministry note said that that the telecom ministry could have gone in for auction of 2G spectrum licenses had Chidambaram, the then Finance Minister, insisted on it.
