Rahul is stranded in Kendrapada and will stay the night at a hotel.

Bhubaneswar: Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, who is on a campaign trail in Orissa, was stranded on Wednesday in Kendrapara town after his chopper failed to take off due to poor visibility, police said.

The 38-year-old leader, who arrived at Kendrapara town from Balasore two hours behind schedule, will stay the night at a hotel, Kendrapara additional superintendent of police Kumarmani Meher said.

All security arrangements have been made according to the guidelines as the youth leader enjoys Z category security.

"The SPG commandos who are accompanying Rahul Gandhi will also stay at the same hotel," the SP said, adding the district police was assisting the SPG in providing security.

Security has been tightened in and around the hotel for Rahul's safety and over 60 police men were deployed there. Extra care was being taken by the district police as he had recently slipped out of the security cordon to interact with local people in Balangir.

Gandhi, who was originally scheduled to leave the district headquarter town soon after addressing the rally, would now depart early tomorrow, party sources said.

The star campaigner's night stay has generated a lot of enthusiasm among the people in Kendrapara and police had to check traffic passing near the hotel.
