Guwahati: It is not the leaders but their choppers that are drawing people to election rallies in remote areas in Assam, which is going to second of the two-phase Assembly polls on April 11.
A large number of people in remote areas of Khumtai, Juria and Mazbat are seen jostling with one another around the make-shift helipads to catch a glimpse of the flying machine.
"We had gone to Sonia Gandhi's rally but the more attractive thing was the helicopter landing with huge sound and wind," said Khagen Munda, a resident of Khumtai where the Congress president had gone for an election rally.
For 18-year-old Hassan Ali, a resident of a remote village in Nagaon, it is only the choppers that draw him to election rallies.
"Political party leaders are the same and there is nothing new to hear from them," Ali, who will vote for the first time.
Sunila Brahma, a resident of Mazbat, said, "The leaders come in style in colourful choppers and people, particularly the youths, are drawn to the meetings for those flying vehicles."
