Haringhata: Accusing the CPM of using the BJP to split anti-Marxist votes in Bengal, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Sunday asked the electorate to 'be careful' by not wasting a single vote and help in effecting political change in Bengal.
"The CPM has brought in the BJP to divide the votes of the TMC-Congress alliance. Be careful, don't give a single vote to them", Mamata, on a whirlwind tour to Nadia district, said. Significantly, the TMC supremo made the appeal ahead of tomorrow's first phase voting in 54 constituencies of North Bengal where the BJP has a sizable presence in some pockets, including Malda and Cooch Behar districts bordering
Bangladesh.
About the BJP criticism of her presenting a railway budget for 2011-12 with an eye on the Bengal polls, the railway minister said "when I tried to ensure railway development in Bengal they dubbed it as a West Bengal-centric budget making the rest of India kangal (pauper)."
"Now they are seeking votes from people here (West Bengal)," Mamata said.
Debunking the CPM charge that TMC was corrupt, Mamata said "we have not yet come to power, where does the question of corruption come. TMC is a party which maintains transparency." She said CPM which used to claim itself to be a party of 'have-nots' turned rich now "as the have-nots have now been left out."
"The TMC was born (in 1998 by breaking away from Congress) to rid the state of CPM's oppression and misrule. The people of Bengal want a change," she said.
