New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal sacked his Food and Civil Supplies Minister Asim Ahmed Khan following allegations of corruption against him. Exposing Khan before the media on Friday, Kejriwal also referred the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
"There is a complain of corruption against the minister. We will not tolerate corruption no matter who is involved in it," said Kejriwal before releasing an audio tape in which Khan is allegedly heard seeking bribe.
In the audio clip Khan is heard speaking with a middleman and a builder seeking bribe. It was the builder who carried out the sting operation on Khan, who is the AAP MLA from Matia Mahal.
The AAP minister allegedly took Rs Six lakh from the builder. Senior party leader Ashutosh said, "It is the AAP itself who took the action on its own. Let BJP and Congress also follow same principle."
Aam Aadmi Party Ballimaran MLA Imran Husain has been made the new Food and Civil Supplies Minister.
Soon after sacking the minister, Kejriwal challenged the Bharatiya Janata Party to act against Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his Rajasthan counterpart Vasundhara Raje.
Reacting to this, former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit said this is all tamasha to attract media, "If the action taken against the minister is without finding the facts, then it will lead to wrong precedent. Since nothing has been proved, Kejriwal has been unfair to Asim Khan. I would have not gone to media without finding the facts. This is all tamasha to attract media," she said.
