New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notice to the Election Commission and the Union of India after Delhi BJP MLA Ravindra Nath Bansal approached the apex court for stay on elections to three Rajya Sabha seats from Delhi.
The matter is listed for hearing on January 16.
Bansal, in his petition, said, "According to the Constitution, Rajya Sabha elections should be held on proportional basis and at every two years. This is neither on proportional basis nor held after 2 years. It is violation of the rule of the provision of the Constitution."
The Rajya Sabha election is scheduled to be held on January 19.
