New Delhi: AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa claimed on Saturday that she had information that DMK supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had demanded the Vice President's post for himself.
"According to reliable sources, Karunanidhi was planning to make his son M K Stalin Chief Minister here and was asking the Vice-President's post for himself," PTI quoted her as saying.
She continued, "That’s why he took his wife Dayalu Ammal along during his recent visit to New Delhi and made her personally call on UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.”
Meanwhile, AIADMK has ruled out support to Pratibha Patil, the UPA-Left nominee for the Presidential elections.
"We have nothing against Pratibha Patil. But as far as the AIADMK is concerned, we have already announced that we will not support a Congress candidate. It does not matter whether the candidate is a man or woman," PTI quoted Jayalalitha as saying.
There were evidently three options for the eight party-front: to put up a candidate of its own, support the candidature of a person who had already announced his intention of contesting or abstain from Presidential election.
The AIADMK chief said a decision would be taken at a meeting of the front-leaders in Chennai on June 18.
