New Delhi: Don't convert bills into 'khichdi' by adding 'spice' to them if you want support to your legislations.
This was the message of opposition to the government in Rajya Sabha.
"If you keep passing bills after taking consensus from all sides, you will keep getting support. Sometimes we are not in support of some bills when they add spice to them like 'khichdi," Leader of Opposition Gulam Nabi Azad said in the Upper House.
He said this while praising External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for getting the Constitution (119th amendment) Bill, that seeks to operationalise the 1974 India-Bangladesh Land Boundary agreement, after taking consent from state governments and opposition parties.
Referring to 'khichdi', Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Nadu, in a lighter vein, said, "These days many people eat 'khichdi' due to health reasons."
Joining in, Sharad Yadav (Janata Dal United) said, "All eat khichdi here but it comes from outside (Parliament). It upsets stomach. We should stop as this is brought from outside."
Sitaram Yechury (CPI-M) said 'khichdi' is eaten when health is not fine. He hoped the government's health remains fine.
