'Don’t Get Surprised If...': Adhir Chowdhury Calls Mamata Banerjee 'Palti Kumari', Says She Has Surrendered To BJP
The senior Congress leader warned against the possibility of the BJP and TMC joining forces to form a government in the future

West Bengal state Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury slammed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday, demanding an explanation for her U-turn on the INDIA bloc alliance.

Speaking at a press conference held at Press Club Kolkata, the senior Congress leader called Mamata ‘paltikumari‘ and warned against the possibility of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC) joining forces to form a government in the future.

Adhir Ranjan — who has represented the Congress party from Baharampur for three consecutive terms from 2009 to 2019 and is re-contesting to maintain his political influence — stated that if he loses Baharampur this time, he will quit politics.

“If I lose Baharampur, I will leave politics,” he declared during the press conference.

The Congress leader further alleged that the West Bengal CM has surrendered to the saffron party as she is reluctant to see certain individuals face legal consequences, referring to them as “khokhababu“.

Adhir Ranjan’s comments came a day after Mamata stated that her INDIA bloc allies, Congress and CPI(M), were “BJP agents” in the state, emphasising that her support for them was primarily at a national level.

The West Bengal Chief Minister cautioned people in the state against voting for the other two parties and asserted that casting a vote for them instead of the TMC would effectively benefit the BJP, equating one vote for them to giving away two votes to the BJP.

Speaking at an election rally in Murshidabad district, which holds a significant Congress-CPI(M) presence, the TMC supremo stated: “I am hearing that some people are saying here that we are INDIA alliance, vote for us. Let me tell them that the INDIA alliance is in Delhi, not here. The Congress, CPM should not form the INDIA alliance here. Giving even one vote to Congress against TMC means giving two votes to BJP. Voting for any other party here means making BJP more powerful.”

The TMC has nominated former Indian cricketer-turned-politician Yusuf Pathan to contest against Adhir Ranjan in the Baharampur parliamentary constituency. On the other hand, the BJP has fielded well-renowned surgeon Dr. Nirmal Kumar Saha as their candidate for the same constituency.
