The SPG provides 'proximate' security to the Prime Minister and the members of his immediate family, and any former Prime Minister or to the members of his immediate family.
Any former PM or any member of the immediate family of the PM or former PM may decline security. The cover can be withdrawn after an evaluation of the security threat to the member.
