New Delhi: President Pratibha Patil could face her first major test as President. A BJP delegation will meet her later on Saturday to show just how many MLAs the party has on its side.

The BJP-led Goa Democratic Alliance has filed a no confidence motion against speaker Pratapsingh Rane and his deputy.

But its plans to defeat the Congress-led government on the floor of the Assembly didn't go as planned on Friday, when the speaker adjourned the house following uproar by Congress MLAs.

The GDA alleges the speaker was deliberately helping the Congress. GDA leaders met the Governor S C Jamir and sought the dismissal of the Digambar Kamat government.

Kamat is to face a floor test on Monday after his government was reduced to a minority with three MLAs withdrawing support and a Congress member resigning from the House.

The Opposition BJP is supported by MGP, UGDP and Save Goa Front.

The numbers are now tipped in favour of the BJP alliance, which has 20 MLAs in the 40-member Assembly that has been reduced to 39 after the resignation of Congress' Victoria Fernandes.
