With the Congress-led opposition in no mood to relent over the Lalit Modi controversy, the NDA government is now in damage control mode and making attempts to be seen acting tough on the former Indian Premier League commissioner.
According to sources, the Narendra Modi government has put all investigations against former IPL czar Lalit Modi on the fast track.
In a significant development, the Blue Corner notice against Lalit Modi is likely to be converted into a Red Corner notice if he doesn’t comply with the authorities. If the Red Corner notice comes in place, the ex-IPL chief can be detained in any country and handed over to India.
Sources further said that the notices would be served to Lalit Modi in the next two weeks.
Earlier, CNN-IBN had learnt that the government was keen on resolving the controversy before the onset of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Keeping in mind how aggressively the Congress and other opposition parties have launched an offensive on the issue, the Narendra Modi government is worried that key reform bills like GST and Land will get further delayed, said sources.
Sources had said that both the Congress and the Left have made it clear that they will not let Parliament function unless this issue is resolved. Notably, the NDA government was keen on the Congress help in getting the GST bill passed, but the party has refused all cooperation.
The government is making attempts to battle out the crisis, both legally as well as politically, sources told CNN-IBN.
Sources further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself was looking for ideas to fight the perception battle along with his think tank.
