GUJARAT ELECTION LIVE UPDATES: The BJP has seen off a tough challenge from the Congress and seems on course to form its sixth straight government in Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani is on course to a big win in Rajkot West, while deputy CM Nitin Patel is leading in Mehsana. Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani has won his maiden election from Vadgam constituency.
GUJARAT ELECTION LIVE UPDATES: The BJP has seen off a tough challenge from the Congress and will form its sixth straight government in Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani won with a margin of more than 54,000 votes in Rajkot West, while deputy CM Nitin Patel emerged victorious in Mehsana. Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani has won his maiden election from Vadgam constituency. The BJP won in 99 seats while Congress alliance won 81. In 2012, the BJP won 119 seats in the 182-member Assembly, while the Congress won 57.
