Faridabad: Congress was decimated in the 16th Lok Sabha election because of massive corruption charges against its government at the Centre and now the Bharatiya Janata Party is using the same in the Haryana Assembly elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his rallies in Haryana was often seen taking on the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government over the Robert Vadra-DLF land deals.

Many Congress MLA candidates have countered by challenging their BJP counterparts to prove any charge against them and some of them even accused Modi's partymen of having criminal charges against them. Karnal Congress MLA candidate Surender Singh Narwal challenged his rivals to prove anything against his character.

Speaking to IBNLive, Narwal said, "I challenge anyone to point fingers on my character or to prove any charge against me. I will quit politics if any charge is proven."

In a similar dig at his BJP counterpart Congress's Tigaon MLA candidate Lalit Nagar, too, had claimed that there was no criminal charge against him. He had in fact claimed that his BJP rival Rajesh Nagar had several criminal cases against him including those of murder.

The INLD, too, has faced flak from the BJP and the Congress with party chief Om Prakash Chautala now in jail in the teachers' recruitment scam.

Whether these claims and accusations garner votes for any of these parties or not remains to be seen on October 19, when the counting of votes is done.
