Haryana Assembly polls: 3 villages decide not to boycott polls over student suicide case

Gurgaon: Three Gurgaon villages including Kasan that had decided to boycott voting will go to vote on Wednesday. The villagers have now decided to cast their votes.

Senior government officials met the residents of Kasan village on Tuesday and promised to fulfil their demand for a speedy probe into college student Pinky Chauhan's case.

Chauhan, a Kasan resident and student of Government Girl's College in Sector 14 under MDU, had immolated herself last month over faulty exam evaluation. She was given zero in a subject.

The girl - a second year BSC student was among 1000 others protesting against their university, alleging that they were intentionally given low marks. The 21-year-old student Pinky Chauhan had set herself on fire in September. She was hospitalised with 90 per cent burns and soon succumbed to her injuries.

Locals in Haryana's Kasan village claim Pinky died due to negligence of her teachers and are demanding their arrest. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had condemned the incident saying that this is a sad incident. "I regret this incident and I am saddened by it."
