Alappuzha: Minister of state for food processing Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti on Sunday asked the Hindu community to "protect" their daughters.
Addressing Sree Narayana Guru Jayanthi celebrations organised by Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) yogam, she said both girls and parents should be vigilant in this regard.
"The Hindu community should protect their daughters from the bad influence of non-believers," she said. Terming the recent religious based census findings as thought provoking, she said it was time for the Hindu community to unite. "We all should become part of one thread."
Explaining the stand of the BJP-NDA government, she said it extends benefits to people irrespective of caste or religion. "It was the British rule that divided the people of the country on religious lines," she said.
