I quit over Mumbai polls debacle: Kripashankar
The announcement of Singh's resignation came soon after the Bombay High Court directed his prosecution on corruption charges.

New Delhi: In a double blow to the Congress in Mumbai after the bad show in the municipal polls, party chief Kripashankar Singh has been made accused in a corruption case by the High Court. The announcement of Singh's resignation came soon after the Bombay High Court directed his prosecution on corruption charges.

Singh told CNN-IBN that his resignation had nothing to do with the charges against him. "There is no question of any link to High Court judgement and my resignation. As the president for Mumbai Congress I requested the Congress president and offered my resignation on moral grounds and on Wednesday my resignation was accepted," he said.

Reacting to the resignation of Kripashankar Singh as the chief of Mumbai Congress, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said that Singh had quit following the party's bad performance in Mumbai civic polls.
