Jayalalitha slams TN govt over dam
Jayalalitha alleged that the parapet wall of Mullaperiyar dam was damaged with the connivance of Kerala police.

New Delhi: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) Chief Jayalalitha on Wednesday alleged that the parapet wall of Mullaperiyar dam was damaged with the connivance of Kerala police and asked the Tamil Nadu government to approach the Supreme Court (SC) over protection of the dam.

She added that the Centre had so far 'not heeded the state's request' to deploy para-military forces to protect the dam and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was being a "mere spectator" to the incident.

“All these policemen are drawing salaries only from the Tamil Nadu government. In such a case, how can this incident occur? Today, the parapet wall is damaged. Will the dam itself be damaged tomorrow?” she asked.

"If Karunanidhi has made a request to the Centre and it was accepted, paramilitary protection should have been in place already," she concluded.

Jayalalitha questioned why the government was not taking measures to implement the SC verdict allowing Tamil Nadu to raise the water level to 142 feet.
