Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has decided to expedite the distribution of free laptops to high school and college students. According to state government officials over 17 lakh free laptops worth Rs 2,500 crore have been distributed to the students since 2011.
5.5 lakh free laptops worth Rs 1,100 crore will be given to students this year.
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had launched the free laptops scheme in 2011 distributing them to higher secondary and college students of government and aided institutions.
