Srinagar: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's close confident and Provincial President of National Conference Nasir Aslam Wani lost his cool on Wednesday and kicked a party worker in Ganderbal during a party's convention.
"Wani lost his cool and came down from the stage and repeatedly kicked a party worker. His action was resented by other workers who warned of election boycott if the party leaders don't change their attitude towards their workers," witnesses said.
Reports said security personnel stopped another worker who tried to confront Nasir Aslam Wani. Scores of other party workers left the convention amid anti-NC slogans soon after this incident.
The NC had organized a party convention in Beehama Ganderbal at their district office. As the convention started, scores of supporters of Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar stood up and raised slogans against the party. These workers alleged that the party is in no mood to award mandate to Sheikh Ishfaq as promised to him by the party leadership.
They were countered by other group of the party who raised slogans against Sheikh Ishfaq and urged upon the leaders present there to convince Omar Abdullah to contest from Ganderbal himself. These supporters claimed that National Conference will taste defeat in case the mandate is given to the Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar.
Reports said that both the groups were about to clash with each other, however, the timely intervention of some party leaders defused the situation.
This is not the first such incident as in April this year, too, Minister for Higher Education Muhammad Akbar Lone had humiliated a youth when he tried to draw the attention of Omar Abdullah towards his problem during an election rally in North Kashmir's Baramulla district
