The Delhi HC slammed the Centre for a Home Ministry notification giving Delhi L-G absolute powers and supremacy over the elected AAP government.

New Delhi: Just days after the Delhi High Court slammed the Central government for a Home Ministry notification giving Delhi Lieutenant Governor absolute powers and supremacy over the elected Aam Aadmi Party government, the Supreme Court will hear Centre's plea against the adverse observations made by the High Court on Friday.

The notification said that the Delhi Anti-Corruption Branch cannot investigate officials who come under the Centre. The move comes just a day after the Delhi Assembly passed a resolution calling the MHA's notification on the L-G powers illegal and invalid.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government too has challenged in Delhi High Court the Centre's notification which gives L-G absolute powers in appointing bureaucrats.

Amidst the ongoing turf war with the Delhi government, L-G Najeeb Jung met Home secretary LC Goyal on Thursday morning.

Delhi Assembly's resolution on Wednesday had held Centre's notification as "illegal" with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal blasting the Narendra Modi government, terming its move as a prelude to pushing the country towards "dictatorship".

In the resolution, the Assembly called the Home Ministry's notification an attempt to "encroach upon" the legislative powers of the House conferred by the Constitution and said it was "completely unconstitutional, illegal and invalid".

Just before the House adopted the resolution, Kejriwal in his fiery address lambasted Lt Governor Najeeb Jung who he said was "dancing to the tune" of the Centre and "deliberately" trying to create obstacles for the AAP government.

"Whatever is happening in Delhi is dangerous. This is the Delhi experiment of the BJP-led Centre. One by one, this experiment would be implemented in every non-BJP state. They want to take the country towards dictatorship. I appeal to all non-BJP chief ministers to come together and unite on this issue," he said.
