Barmer: BJP candidate Sona Ram filed his nomination papers from Barmer constituency in Rajasthan on Tuesday. He presented two sets of nominations, District Collector Bhanu Prakash told PTI.
Backed by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Sona Ram was given the ticket by the party instead of veteran Jaswant Singh.
The former Congress MLA had been vocal against former chief minister Ashok Gehlot and joined BJP last week. Sona Ram was accompanied by his supporters in Barmer on Tuesday.
Annoyed over the decision of the party to give ticket to Sona Ram, Jaswant Singh filed nomination papers from the seat as an independent candidate on Monday.
