Kolkata: Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday was released from a private nursing home where she was being treated for weakness and liver dysfunction.

Banerjee was taken to the nursing home on December 29 after she ended a 25-day-old hunger strike against the West Bengal government acquiring farmland for the Tata Motors' small car project in Singur, Hooghly district.

Banerjee still has liver dysfunction but was released at her request, PTI said in a report which quoted the South Kolkata nursing home's officials.

The 51-year-old politician leads protests in the state against the government’s decision to acquire farmland for several industrial projects.
