Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has raised the pitch for the Lok Sabha elections. Addressing a grand rally at the Brigade parade ground in Kolkata on Thursday, the Trinamool Congress supremo said that the TMC was the new alternative to the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
"We do not want a government in Delhi that supports rioting. We want a government that can deliver change," Mamata said, drawing on the recent furore on the number of communal riots in the country.
"The Trinamool is the new alternative at the Centre. BJP is not the alternative to the Congress and neither is the reverse true," she said.
The 59-year-old gave a call for "poriborton" at the Centre, announcing a series of rallies across the country ahead of the elections.
"We must form a federal front to empower the states. We will fight outside the frontiers of Bengal in the upcoming polls. I will campaign in other parts of the country as well," she said.
